Blogging Slacker!

Oops. Life has seem to taken me off my blogging path.

And look! It's a new year! Last year my goal was to buy a house and within days of 2012 I made it happen. We've been settling in, unpacking, painting (the kitchen twice after deciding Tuscan yellow is *not* me) and setting up my new studio/office space. I hope this new year is full of creativity, love and abundance for all! Peace~

30 Day Drawing Challenge

I was helping a friend's daughter prepare her portfolio for art school the other day and gave her some wise words that my grandfather had said to me, "Draw EVERY DAY!" Now only if I could heed my own advise! There just aren't enough hours in the day I tell you!

Along comes this lovely little 30 day drawing challenge! Yes, along with reading the classics, baking rolls and Indian pudding, driving the kids around and (oh yeah!) working...I will be drawing as well. Join me!

New Year's Resolution

I have always wanted to read more classics. Or even better, some banned books that will be classics someday. Hence my New Year's Resolution. No, it won't be to lose weight or exercise more, it is to expand my mind's library so to speak. What books will you be reading in 2012? Here is my list so far:

Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller (1934)
Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut (1969)
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck (1939)
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky (1999)
The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger
Wuthering Heights

I got an award?!

I got the Versatile Blogger Award! What an honor~ I'm so excited about this! Especially because I just started Bramble Spice less than a week ago and only have 2 followers so far. Ha! And one's my own sister so...Yes, it's pretty cool to be recognized! I now get the privilege of passing it on the 15 of my favorite bloggers.

Here are the rules:
Thank the person who nominated you. Tell 7 things about yourself so that your readers may learn more about you and nominate 15 other newly discovered bloggers and let them know you nominated them.

7 Things About Me

1. If I could go back in time I would love to live in 1920's Paris

2.  Today's mission- Get candy- preferably something I don't like so I won't eat it.

3. Watched "Jean-Michel Basquiat:Radiant Child" today. Made me want to break out the paints, huge canvases and Coltrane.

4. I'm retreating into the Hermit Zone (I can relate Krista!). It's that time of year. I want to just chill at home, knit some fingerless gloves, read all those good books I've been meaning to read, hang out with my kids, roast pumpkin seeds (when I get the pumpkin!) and heck- make some Hermits in honor of my hermitage with lots of molasses and spice~I shall savor with tea and post recipe with due diligence my friends.

5. I started a blog because I have a lot on my mind. And I have a lot I want to do, like write creatively, do more art, refinish furniture finds. I can put it all here and be organized for once. How great is that? Maybe you'll enjoy it, maybe you won't. But that's ok by me because - I won an award!

6. Phew! This is actually harder than I thought! 2 more things about me...Ummmummmmm, ummmm.
My dog needs a bath.

7. I want to learn the Thriller dance.

And I pass thine Versatile Blogger Award to the following recipients :
I would like to give it to new bloggers with less than 100 followers but it's taking me a bit of time for this part. I hope by the end of the week I will be able to award 15 up and coming bloggers~

Thank you again Krysta from I Take the Pen!

The Fruitless Halloween Man Hunt

I've come to the conclusion that Halloween parties are indeed the worst night ever to find a single man. Clad in my 60's costume, 4" velvet go-go boots, fake eyelashes, hair pouf and daisy clip on earrings , one could say I looked "smashing" - Yeahhh baby! But when it comes to looking around the party for who could be single and datable- my prospects turn up short, man. Does he wear eyeliner on a  daily basis? Or is that just a one-time rock-n-roller inspired look for him? Is he creepy under that mask? Because he sure looks creepy with it on! And what does he really look like under that silver face paint? Hmmm. Should I even attempt a conversation with the man with fake boobs? Chalk it up to a ghoulish night hanging with my girls,  gettin' down to the Monster Mash in an outfit I would never wear given any other prime man-hunting Friday night, and savoring the autumn chill with delight. It was fun to dress up but thankfully this night comes but once a year!
